Acer Aspire 5738 data recovery
We recover files from the Acer Aspire 5738, an older model from Acer’s range before 2012, at our London SE1 lab. It has a 2.5-inch hard drive.
Where your files are
These older Aspire models use a 2.5-inch laptop hard drive: IDE (PATA) on the earliest models and SATA from around 2007. The drive comes out of the laptop, so even if the laptop itself is dead, we recover the drive on its own.

What’s wrong with it?
| What it is doing | What it usually means |
|---|---|
| Clicking, ticking or beeping | The hard drive’s heads have failed. Switch it off: every start can scratch the platters. |
| Dropped, now won’t start | Usually head damage in the hard drive. A cleanroom job; the data is often fine. |
| “No bootable device” | The drive isn’t detected, or Windows is damaged. Often a straightforward recovery. |
| Very slow, freezing | A failing drive with bad sectors. Copy it now, before it gets worse. |
| Files deleted or laptop reset | Logical recovery, as long as the drive hasn’t been used much since. |
Switch it off. Don’t keep restarting a laptop that clicks, freezes or won’t start, and don’t reset Windows. Both can overwrite or destroy the files you want back.

Questions about the Acer Aspire 5738
Can you recover data from a Acer Aspire 5738 that won’t turn on?
Usually, yes. The Acer Aspire 5738 has a 2.5-inch hard drive, which we can take out and recover even if the laptop itself is dead.
Should I run recovery software first?
Only if the drive is healthy and the files were simply deleted. If the laptop clicks, freezes or the drive isn’t detected, switch it off: software makes a failing drive work harder.
How long does it take?
Most logical recoveries take two to four working days. Drives that need cleanroom work or board repair take longer, and we can prioritise urgent jobs.
